Greenwood County Homicide Suspect Identified in Woman's Death

GREENWOOD COUNTY, S.C. – The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Department announced that a potential suspect has been identified following the discovery of a deceased woman in her vehicle early on Saturday morning.

Reportedly, the Greenwood County Coroner’s office received a call around 6 a.m. and dispatched officials to Kerr Road to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered the body of Crystal Dawn Rainey, a 47-year-old resident of Greenville, inside her car. She had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

The coroner’s office subsequently classified the cause of death as a homicide.

Authorities from the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office are actively seeking Joshua Dean Nix, a 40-year-old from Greenville, in connection to this incident. Nix’s current whereabouts are unknown, and he is considered potentially armed and dangerous.

Nix is described as being 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing around 200 pounds.

Based on evidence collected from the scene, law enforcement has obtained warrants for Nix’s arrest on charges of murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

At present, there is no available description of the suspect’s vehicle. It’s believed that the shooting occurred on Friday night, and Nix is thought to have had ample time to leave the immediate area. He has affiliations throughout the state.
